Dealing with Evil

Those of you who read Sunday’s post will recall that I’m experiencing a difficult situation with a neighbour at the moment. It’s been consuming a lot of my energy and it’s hard to see a way forward, such is the troubling attitude of the person.

I have been asking God for help and He graciously directed me to several passages from the Psalms, where we read King David crying out to God for help against the oppression of his enemies. Reading these passages brought me great comfort.

Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortals, in whom there is no help.
When their breath departs,
they return to the earth;
on that very day their plans perish.
(Psalm 146:3-4)

Deliver me, O LORD, from evildoers;
protect me from those who are violent,
who plan evil things in their minds
and stir up wars continually.
(Psalm 140:1-2)

The LORD sets the prisoners free;
the LORD opens the eyes of the blind.
The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down;
the LORD loves the righteous.
The LORD watches over the strangers;
he upholds the orphan and the widow,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
(Psalm 146:7b-9)

People have all kinds of advice to offer when you’re going through a seemingly impossible situation. Their advice is based on their experience and their limited understanding of what you’re going through (of course it must be this way, we shouldn’t expect otherwise).

But I am convinced that by far the most useful help anyone can give is to pray for you, because it is God who holds the solution to the problem. It’s not a simple case of fighting back, or being stronger, or making a complaint, or saying the right thing. When we are faced with great evil, and can’t see a way out, our only hope is Almighty God.

Thank you so much for your prayers xx

  1. Hey Steven,

    Have been praying for you and I offered Mass prayers for you when I went to Church. This give me so much hope in our Lord. To answer You Himself, it does not get any better than that does it? God Bless, SR

  3. I’ve been praying for you also. I’m sorry you are going through this. I had some neighbors once who played loud music. It upset my peace so much! I decided to play my own music when theirs was on and that helped me a lot. I like classical and Christian music. You could play that just loud enough to drown out his music. I pray the Lord will put a hedge around you. “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people.”

    1. Hi Belle! Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and suggestions. I’m so grateful that there is some separation between flats here, so yes if I play music at a relatively low volume that helps, although you still get the bass from my neighbour’s music coming through. Thankfully I spend quite a lot of time in the bedroom which is at the back of the house so less noise comes through. Peace and blessings, Steven ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

  4. I had a rough day with the Company I work for and a particular customer who wasn’t a reasonable sort of fellow. Needless to say, God tested me today and the flesh tempted me. This post is what I needed. Thank you.

  10. I just pray that God gives you break-through and peace. I hate it when we’re tested in certain things. It takes Gods divine grace. And perhaps the Lord will simply move them out. Gone through similar stuff and prayer does work. Lord have your way in this situation. And may your grace and peace fill Steven’s home. Amen. Thanks for the post. Needed it. God bless.

    1. Hi Beehopper!

      Thank you so much. Really appreciating everyone’s prayers, it means so much to me. Just taking it a day at a time at the moment. I haven’t bumped into the guy for many days now, though he’s still booming out the music most days. Sorry to hear you’ve faced similar stuff, but I’m encouraged that you came through and your prayers were answered ๐Ÿ˜Š

      God bless and have a great day ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป
